United States Senator Patty Murray We are endorsing Washington State Sen. Patty Murray in her re-election bid. We believe that during this turbulent time, with a faltering economy, it’s important to pick the right candidate that will help us climb out of this hole. We need someone who is competent, who will create new jobs, and who will grow our businesses. Her opponent, Dino Rossi, has been a worthy contender. To be frank, two years ago, when Rossi ran against Gov. Chris Gregoire for the second time, we didn’t have to think hard in deciding who to endorse in that race. However, for the current race, it was a tough decision. Rossi has made real progress in reaching out to ethnic communities. This last year, he has been seen in our neighborhoods more often than Murray. He has also tried to diversified his staff. However, our issue with Rossi is that he has been too vague with the issues. When we have spoken with him on his stances, we thought he, in comparison to Murray, oversimplified things. In television debates, he often avoided answering questions. Though we can’t be sure if this would be his approach if he were to become senator, it does concern us that he seems not to be as knowledgeable and analytical as Murray. Additionally, Murray is now the fourth-highest ranking Democrat in the U.S. Senate, having been first elected in 1993. She is Senate Majority Conference Secretary. Murray has many dedicated years under her belt and is a powerful voice for Washington state in the national arena. In contrast, if Rossi were elected, being a freshman senator, he’d lack the kind of clout that Murray has. Right now, we need someone like Murray more than ever. |

Our endorsements are not a comprehensive depiction of all the candidates in the general election. We endorse only candidates that we know a lot about and feel comfortable backing. For instance, this year, we opted not to endorse anyone in judicial races because we did not feel confident that we knew enough about the candidates.

I am curious what your endorsement process is? How you could not endorse a strong candidate such as Diana Toledo?
Diana Toledo is a 15 year King County employee who’s father, along with his brothers and sisters have migrated from the Philippines to Seattle nearly a half century ago.
Diana Toledo is endorsed by Asian Community Leaders such as Former Seattle Councilman David Della, Bert Caoili, Nes Rodriguez, Danny Clavesilla, Linda Timmons, Jeannie Chow, Grand Master Hin Fai Mak, and many others.
Meanwhile, Joe McDermott has a 10 years record of partisan/divisive politics and a serious of taxes that have damaged our communities.
NW Asian Weekly should be ashamed of themselves.

I totally agree with Mike. Why isn’t Diana Toledo endorsed by NWAW? What contributions has Joe brought to the Asian community that is worthy of this paper’s endorsement? Is NWAW politically biased and favors party lines? This is an outrage!
