Blog: Gee How Oak Tin Family Association

Seattle’s Chinatown Gee How Oak Tin Family Association celebrated its 110th year and held its Lunar New Year banquet at the House of Hong on Feb. 20. Unbelievably, this chapter’s history is even longer than its headquarters in San Francisco.

Most Chinese organizations’ Lunar New Year dinner was conducted in Chinese. This year, the emcee, Larry Chan, realized that it is not polite to do so to their non-Chinese speaking dignitaries and decided to ask its president to award them with the association’s honorary club pin. What a nice gesture!

The last names for the family association are Chin (Chan, Chen, Chin, or Tran for the same Chinese character), Wu (Woo), and Yuan. ♦
