Easy parking in the ID? Not a chance

August 27, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

It started in 1917. Henry Louie and his family have been in business in the International District (ID) for four generations. They have gone through two world wars and the Great Depression. Even after a few relocations, nothing has separated them from King Street in Seattle. Nonetheless, something is making them consider again.

Food for thought: Could vegetable oil-based biodiesel fuel our future?

August 27, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

You may spot business owner Yale Wong cruising the streets in his shiny black Mercedes Benz. However, it is what’s inside his luxury sedan that grabs the most attention. Wong fuels his car with biodiesel made from food grease and vegetable oil — yes, the same grease used to deep fry your fish ‘n’ chips, chicken tenders, and side order of fries. Some consider it to be a promising alternative to petroleum fuel and a better option than soy-based biodiesel, which has recently been criticized for not being “green” enough.

Commentary: Let’s profit from China’s industriousness

August 27, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Letter: ‘Thai Tom’ story was illuminating

August 27, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

To the Editor,

It didn’t surprise me that Thai Tom was cited for its fifth health code violation in three years [as reported in issue 32]. I ate there a few weeks ago. I wouldn’t go back even though the food was exceptional.
