In these districts, Latinos make up the majority of the population. Asians are the second largest population and whites are the minority. We see this new emergence of Chinese American and Vietnamese American candidates as an example of the growing Asian American voice.
On March 29, Northwest Vietnamese and Vietnamese American singers participated in a national singing contest called Giong Ca Vang (Golden Voice). Most contestants sang in Vietnamese. The semifinals were held at the Emerald Queen Casino. The event was helmed by Saigon Broadcasting Television Network and sponsored by Comcast.
