Chinese truck explosion caused by illegal fireworks

By Didi Tang The Associated Press BEIJING, China (AP) — A truck that exploded and caused an elevated stretch of a highway to collapse in central China, killing 10 people, was loaded with holiday fireworks that were illegally produced and transported, authorities said Saturday, Feb. 2.

Japan to buy islands, China angry

By Eric Talmadge The Associated Press TOKYO, JAPAN (AP) — Japan’s Cabinet formally announced on Sept. 4 that the government will purchase several disputed islands that China also claims, a move that Beijing said would bring “serious consequences.”
