Sept. 23–25: Mill Creek-based USTA Pacific Northwest wins national title

A team from the Mill Creek Tennis Club, owned by Chinese Americans Roger and Byron Mark, won the national title at the 2011 USTA Adult League National Championships in Tucson, Ariz. The Mill Creek team defeated a squad from Houston, 3–2, in the finals.

Aug. 6–8: Local tennis teams win USTA PNW championships

Four local tennis teams won in the United States Tennis Association League Pacific Northwest Section Championships. More than 65 teams participated in the competition in Portland, Ore.

With tennis in the blood, brothers open dream courts

Roger Mark, a tennis coach, and Byron, his younger brother and business partner, started playing tennis when they were 9 years old. At the time, tennis was considered a rich white man’s sport and Asian American players playing at private clubs was unheard of. However, Roger and Byron Mark recently gained ownership of their own tennis club.
