Blog: Our risk paid off, McGinn and Constantine in the ID together

The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward and thrill, I say. That was our motto at the Northwest Asian Weekly with our Diversity at the Top dinner on Dec. 4. We tied our fate with the election on Nov. 3 by honoring its winners. Little did we know that the result of the Seattle mayoral election would be unknown until Nov. 10.

McGinn ushers in an ‘open source’ transition

“[Seattle Mayor-elect Mike] McGinn explained that rather than making courtesy calls to all the council members, he thought it better to just walk over and meet face to face on a casual basis,” said Seattle City Councilmember Nick Licata in a release. “This is a departure from Mayor Nickel’s style, which was to rely more on his deputy mayor Tim Ceis to walk the council hallway.”

I was at Joe Mallahan’s election night party at the Edgewater. When I left, one of Mallahan’s good friend said he was hoping Mallahan could pull through, though he was down by 900 votes at the time.

Editorial: Mayor Greg Nickels will be missed by Asians

Mayor Greg Nickels conceded defeat last Friday in his bid for a third term. The two men who will advance to the general election in November are T-Mobile Executive Joe Mallahan and Sierra Club activist Mike McGinn. All three candidates are Democrats.
