Obama deflects criticism about lack of diversity

By Josh Lederman The Associated Press WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) — Deflecting criticism about a perceived lack of diversity in his second-term Cabinet, President Barack Obama on Monday, Jan. 14 urged Americans not to rush to judgment about who he will appoint to replace departing members of his team.

U.S. wants out of suit over Chinese detainee’s death

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The alleged neglect and death of a terminally ill Chinese immigrant detained in a Rhode Island jail two years ago triggered scathing reports and investigations. There has been a wide-ranging federal lawsuit and hand-wringing over who was responsible.

On April 30, after months of activism and advocacy by OneAmerica and other immigrant right groups nationwide, the Department of Homeland Security decided to release sweeping new guidelines to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on workplace enforcement of immigration law.
