By Staff Northwest Asian Weekly James Malcolm Mar was born in Seattle on July 11, 1914, to immigrant parents Lee Shee and Henry Mar Hing. Throughout his life, Mar would bear witness to the Asian experience in Seattle and the United States and lend his help and services to members of the Asian community.
The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience held its annual dinner and auction while also celebrating the 100-year anniversary of its home, the East Kong Yick. Festivities included an art auction with works by celebrated Asian Pacific American and Northwest artists, a family-style dinner, performances, and special guests like U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and his wife, Mona. About 450 people attended.
