Letter: Seattle’s Filipino community exists

November 26, 2008 By Northwest Asian Weekly

I am a Filipino-American, Washington resident for the last 14 years and avid reader of Northwest Asian Weekly. I was intrigued by your recent article in the latest edition (Vol. 27, No. 48) regarding the addition of Maria Arcega-Dunn to the Q13 Fox News team in Seattle …

Letter: An addendum to the Chinatown gate story

November 22, 2008 By Northwest Asian Weekly

I would like to thank Ryan Pangilinan for his excellent article, “Hong helps Chinatown…” (in the Nov. 6-14 issue). It is the only piece that fully describes Mr. Hong’s contribution — both in money and work — to his community, a tribute to how an immigrant gives back to his community.

November 1, 2008 By Northwest Asian Weekly

I am not part of a political campaign. I am a former 14-plus-year homeowner in Olympia, with family in Tacoma and Lakewood. We are proudly Asian Americans.

Letter: Burner for representation

November 1, 2008 By Northwest Asian Weekly

As the partner of an Asian American, one of my most enlightening realizations in recent years has been the underrepresentation of the Asian American community in this nation. Therefore, it is my duty to support one candidate for U.S. Congress: Darcy Burner.

Letter: Little Saigon needs to grow

October 25, 2008 By Northwest Asian Weekly

The Vietnamese community, of course, agonizes over what Little Saigon will mean to their children. It is a business enterprise zone where the fashions and people of Vietnam open their doors to commerce. At present, it is a wing and a satellite of the International District/Chinatown lacking a sense of place.

Letter: Don’t forget Gregoire’s commitment to APIs

October 18, 2008 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Gov. Chris Gregoire made commitments to support significant investments in the API community when she entered office. We believe she has honored those commitments by providing community health services, support for API small business, naturalization services, employment training, and other programs for refugees and immigrants.

Letter: Rossi for governor: It’s time for change

October 18, 2008 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Dino Rossi is running for governor because he wants to change the way state government deals with important issues facing Washington. Christine Gregoire has worked in government for 38 years and, unfortunately, has too often become part of the problem instead of the solution.
