The Women’s University Club of Seattle presented its annual Brava! Awards on May 16, honoring women in the greater Seattle area who have made a positive, enduring difference in the community and beyond. This year, in celebration of the club’s centennial, members nominated “Women of the Century.”

API Heritage Month brought out the crowds to the Seattle Center on Sunday, where celebrants of all ages were entertained by drumming, music, dance, games, and a lively hum bow eating contest.
President Obama launched his trip to Asia from Oso, Wash., where he visited the March 22 landslide victims’ families, friends, and rescue workers. From there, he began a week-long trip to four Asian countries.
First Lady Michelle Obama traveled to China March 20 through March 26 with her mother, Mrs. Marian Robinson, and daughters, Malia and Sasha Obama. They visited historical and cultural sites, as well as schools, including a calligraphy class in which one student taught Mrs. Obama how to draw the character for “eternity.”
Northwest Asian Weekly hosted the annual Children’s Parade Contest, featuring dozens of children in festive costumes — from the traditional Korean dress Hanbok to handmade horse costumes.
