Thieves target seniors in their apartments

By Rebecca Ip Seattle Chinese Post The depressed economy seems to have affected the security and safety of the Chinatown/International District and its neighboring communities. In recent months, more robberies in the streets and in residents’ homes — located in the International District, Beacon Hill, and Rainier Valley neighborhoods — have been reported than before.

Actor Kal Penn goes to Washington

Actor Kal Penn shocked fans when his character on “House, M.D.” exited the show in a dramatic fashion on April 6. Indian American Penn played Dr. Lawrence Kutner. After two seasons on the show, Penn’s character was found dead in his apartment, apparently due to suicide.

East ID launches bilingual block watch

A coalition of South Weller St., Chinatown, and municipal organizations is launching a bilingual block watch sign campaign on the east side of the International District. The signs will feature English-Chinese and English-Japanese versions, the first of its kind in Seattle, according to Thomas O’Kelly, coordinator of East ID Block Watch.
