George Uchida, 1924–2009

On May 27, George Uchida passed away from complications from a head injury. Uchida was a former scoutmaster who mentored U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke.

Ronald Takaki, ethnic studies pioneer, passes away

BERKELEY, California (AP) — Ronald Takaki, a pioneer in the field of ethnic studies who taught the University of California system’s first Black history course, has died. He was 70.
