Northwest Asian Weekly (under the auspices of its big sister Seattle Chinese Post) is the only weekly English-edition newspaper serving Washington’s Pan Asian community. The Northwest Asian Weekly has one simple goal: To empower the Asian and Pacific Islander American communities.
The way that the newspapers carries out this goal is varied and far-reaching. Beyond putting hyperlocal news about our community, we also organize cultural and community events throughout the year to invite people to learn more about API cultures and also the rich history of Seattle’s International District (in fact, most of our events are held in the ID!). Northwest Asian Weekly also organizes programs for youth in the areas of higher education, diversity, cultural understanding, and leadership building.
Publisher Assunta Ng says that before she founded the Seattle Chinese Post in 1982, immigrants “had to go to a billboard in Chinatown to find out what was going on.” Now, Ms. Ng’s newspaper tells them about community events and news in a regular weekly paper.
