City Council Confirms 13 of 15 Community Police Commissioners

The Seattle Public Safety, Civil Rights, and Technology Committee, chaired by councilman Bruce Harrell, held a hearing on March 13 to review and approve nominees for the Seattle Community Police Commission. The Commission will help reform the Seattle Police Department as required by the U.S. Department of Justice Settlement Agreement.  

Appointed were ACRS Executive Director Diane Narasaki and Defender Association Deputy Director Racial Disparity Project supervisor Lisa Daugaard as Co-Chairs, and Sea Mar Vice President Claudia D’Allegri, Downtown Emergency Services Center Director Bill Hobson, Native American SPD Advisory Committee Jay Hollingsworth, SPD Captain/Seattle Police Management Association VP Joseph Kessler, Downtown Seattle Association CEO Kate Joncas, Racial Disparity Program LEAD Coordinator John Page, former City Councilwoman Tina Podlodowski, Youth Undoing Institutional Racism Program coordinator Marcel Purnell, ACLU Deputy Director Jennifer Shaw, Officer Kevin Stuckey, and the Mothers for Police Accountability Co-Founder Rev. Harriet Walden.

Rev. Aaron Williams, Senior Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church, and Kip Tokuda were not approved because of their absence.

Williams and Tokuda will appear before the next Committee meeting on Wednesday, March 20. (end)
