The hours of the International District–Chinatown branch of the Seattle Public Library have been extended in 2013. The library will now be open Mondays and Tuesdays from 1 p.m.–8 p.m.; Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m.–6 p.m.; and Sundays from 1 p.m.–5 p.m.
To celebrate the new hours, the ID–Chinatown branch will be hosting a special celebration on March 10 from 2 p.m.–3:30 p.m.
The extended hours are funded by a seven-year, $122 million levy that was voted on during the primary election in August. The levy funds the increase of hours, additional book purchases, computer upgrades, and maintenance. The levy, which passed with 62 percent of the vote, comes after four straight years of budget cuts, which had reduced the library’s budgets by 13 percent. (end)
