State Representative Sharon Tomiko Santos has been selected for a 2012 Distinguished Community Service Award by the University of Washington Multicultural Alumni Partnership. Rep. Santos has served the 37th district since 1996 and is a former House Minority Whip. In addition, she has worked as a volunteer for the Wing Luke Museum, the Asian Pacific Islander Women’s Center, and the Center for Ethnical Leadership. She also served as the Chief Development Officer for the Seattle Chinatown Preservation and Development Authority, raising millions of dollars for community-based projects. The award will be presented by Rep. Jim McDermott at the 18th annual MAP Bridging the Gap scholarship breakfast to be held during UW Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the UW Husky Union Building. She was also honored by the Refugee Women’s Alliance earlier this month Sept. 14 at the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall before an audience of nearly 700. (end)
