Well, Beijing has some of the best Chinese food. I was there three years ago and was fortunate enough to taste incredible Shanghaiese, Shandong, Beijing, and other ethnic foods.
When Locke was governor in Olympia, he frequently longed for good Chinese food. Our capitol is famous for Americanized Chinese food. In Washington, D.C., Chinese food is lousy, too.
So when his wife, Mona, visited Seattle’s Chinatown/International District for lunch, the former governor could always expect goodies that she would bring home.
One time, Mona and some friends, including me, had lunch in the ID. She packed all the leftovers.
“That’s for Gary,” she said.
“No, no,” I said, meaning I thought we should order better stuff than leftovers for our governor.
“No, it’s fine,” she said.
Now that Locke will be in Beijing, he will probably have plenty of good Chinese food! What a reward! ♦
