Blog: Many manly faces at Women of Color Empowered

February 10, 2011 By Northwest Asian Weekly

At our last Women of Color Empowered luncheon, held on Jan. 28 at the New Hong Kong Restaurant, there were lots of men in attendance. Usually, there are just a handful of men. This time, there were at least 50 men out of an audience of 240 people. Congressman Jay Inslee showed up with a male aide.

Federal Judge Jim Robart was also there. It’s great when men show up to events that are catered more to women.

I would hope that women do the same, especially women of color. Women should how up at events that are predominately male. Diversity is crucial in a healthy society.

Men are always welcome at our events! You don’t need to ask first. ♦
