The Nisei Student Relocation Commemorative Fund (NSRC) will award a total of $50,000 to Southeast Asian high school seniors residing in Washington state. Eligible students include those whose families originated from Cambodia, Laos, or Vietnam.
The awards will be given in three amounts: 11 scholarships of $2,000 each, and additional scholarships of $1,000 and $500 each.
The deadline to apply is Friday, April 1.
The NSRC Fund is a nonprofit national scholarship program that was established in 1980 by a group of Japanese Americans who were confined in U.S. concentration camps during World War II. The NSRC Fund is unique in that it is the only Japanese American run scholarship program in the United States offering awards to Southeast Asians American high school seniors. Every year, the board of directors selects a different city, region, or area to offer awards. To date, the fund has awarded 608 scholarships totaling nearly $589,000.
The scholarship was last in Washington state in Seattle in 1991. ♦
