Attention: FCS offers free photography, songwriting, and poetry workshops for young people

February 24, 2011 By Northwest Asian Weekly

The Filipino Community of Seattle (FCS) wants to encourage the creativity and development of our youth by sponsoring free workshops conducted by professionals to produce an exciting photo exhibit called “Ako (I), Ikay (You), Tayo (We)” with a soundscape.

FCS Kultura Arts developed the workshops for high school students to explore their identity and provide a sense of community, while gaining technical skills in photography, poetry, and songwriting. The workshops will be facilitated by professional photographers Carina del Rosario and Joseph Songco, hip hop artist Katrina “Rogue Pinay,” and music composer Orlando Morales.

Each workshop will involve at least two field trips. Participants will have the opportunity to work with their own group, as well as with others to collaborate on a traveling photographic exhibit and soundscape entitled “Ako, Ikaw, Tayo.”

The exhibit will be shown at the FCS Gallery, at Seattle Center Festal’s Pagdiriwang, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary at Pista at Seward Park.

The concurrent workshops will be held on Tuesday afternoons on March 15, 22, and 29, and April 5 and 12, from 4:30 to 6:40 p.m., at the Filipino Community Center. ♦

To register for one of the workshops, visit fcskultura.wordpress.com or register in person at the Filipino Community Center, 5047 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Seattle, WA 98108.  Registration closes on March 10.
