The University of Washington Alumni Association launched an advocacy effort, known as the UW Impact, in December 2010.

UW Impact mobilizes 300,000 alumni to get more involved in politics and advocate for higher education in Olympia.
The purpose of UW Impact is to increase awareness and understanding of the role that the UW plays in the state of Washington, the nation, and the world. It provides opportunities to take action.

Colleen Fukui-Sketchley, president of the UW Alumni Association, said, “Our vision is to harness the incredible energy of our association members and the 300,000 Husky alumni into an effective advocacy voice for the University of Washington and higher education in our state. We are statewide in focus, and united around common values and a singular message that a quality public education is not just a nice thing to have in good times, but is essential to the economic and cultural well-being of our state.”

UW Impact provides important information on issues affecting the viability of the UW and higher education, efficient ways to identify and contact elected officials to ask their support for specific legislation affecting the UW, and ways to share viewpoints with the media. ♦
