The State of Washington Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs (CAPAA) and the Asian Pacific Islander Community Leadership Foundation (ACLF) invites Washington’s future leaders to apply to their fellowship program in CAPAA’s office.
CAPAA is an executive branch agency that advises the governor, the legislature, and state and local agencies on issues of concern to the Asian Pacific American community.
The ACLF is a community-based, nonprofit organization that trains and supports the leadership of Asian Pacific Islanders with a commitment to social justice, community empowerment, and public service.
This fellowship allows students to make a significant contribution to the state while earning academic credit, exploring career options, and gaining valuable professional experience.
Fellowship projects may include researching and analyzing public policy, tracking legislation, attending committee hearings, authoring bill summaries and reports, organizing community events, and assisting in constituent services and communications.
Fellows will work closely with CAPAA and ACLF staff on these meaningful projects. Fellows will also have the opportunity to shadow an Asian Pacific American legislator.
After completing the fellowship, if eligible, the fellow will participate in ACLF’s Community Leaders Program, a six-month leadership program from May to November that further develops leadership skills through community-based curriculum, project team-building, and networking.
Fellows will serve in Olympia in a volunteer capacity. Applications from college juniors, seniors, and graduate students are welcomed. Students focusing on law, public policy, and public administration are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application review begins Dec. 1. After Dec. 15, applications are considered on a space-available basis. ♦
