Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteer Yiem Mean received the 2010 Outstanding Volunteer Service Award from Gov. Chris Gregoire.

Mean, at 65 years old, has been an active member of RSVP and a volunteer at the Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) Food Bank for the past 18 years. Mean volunteers four days per week at ACRS where she has logged more than 9,600 hours.

Mean fled Cambodia in 1979 to escape the Khmer Rouge. She lived in a refugee camp in Thailand until her brother sponsored her to come to the United States 21 years ago. She now lives with her sister in Seattle.  ♦
