Blog: Greg Nickels event cancelled

September 22, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

A big dinner honoring Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels to be held at the Seattle Westin Hotel was cancelled due to lack of interest. Nickels lost his reelection on Aug. 18 in the primary election.

Poor mayor! Every day, there is a staff leaving him. By November, he might not have anybody working in the mayor’s office even though his last day is Dec. 31. Of course, he has to look for a job for himself.

In between now and then, Nickels deals with cold faces when he attends a public event. Even the Democrats are not thrilled talking to him. One Democrat even said to him in a recent picnic for Democrats, “I don’t want to play with you.”

People showed their real face when they cannot get any benefits from Nickels. When he was in the prime of his mayoral career, people had to wait just to talk to him for a few minutes or shake his hand.

In the last two years, when he attended a play or dined at a restaurant with his family, no one said hi. That was when I knew he was in trouble. It’s a different situation with former mayor Norm Rice who still has people hovering around him and waving at him in public places.

not sure this is accurate. The mayor had a resounding ovation at the History Link lunch event yesterday. Not sure where this is coming from.
