Scholastic achievement: Thu Nhat Ma

Tu Nhat Ma, an eighth-grader at McClure Middle School, was awarded the Assistance League Scholarship for 2009. Ma will use her scholarship at the UW Summer Youth Program to study writing.

An immigrant from Vietnam five years ago, Ma is an active volunteer as a member of the Young Hero’s program at McClure. Ma’s future plans include perfecting her English and, eventually, going to law school.

Since 2008, the nonprofit Assistance League of Seattle awards numerous scholarships for summer extracurricular programs including arts, science, music, journalism, math, and computers.
