Some festive cheer around the Northwest Asian Weekly/Seattle Chinese Post newsroom

December 20, 2008 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Both newspapers thought it would be fun to participate in a holiday decorating contest to make the newsroom feel more like home. The staff split into four teams and were given a blank 6 by 10 foot wall or a 3 by 14 foot set of windows to carry out their ideas. Each team was lucky enough to have its own graphic designer. Judges from the community picked the best decoration, though results will not be announced until Dec. 19.

A team made up of Rebecca Ip, James Chang, and Mei Lau were the first to finish decorating. They were environmentally conscious. They used old printed copies of the newspapers. For a personalized touch, the team took photos of every staff member and pasted it on Christmas clip art. Ho ho ho!

A team made up of Stacy Nguyen, Kelly Liao, Toshi Mei, and Liao’s son Steven went with a gingerbread pagoda and cut-out snowflake theme. The team used old Christmas lights to form a tree. Nguyen was slightly eletrocuted by the lights, but it was in the name of Christmas! Fifteen origami cranes appear on this decoration.
A team made up of Jun Chen, Wing Wu, and Nancy Chang used glittery garlands and a Christmas wreath as part of their wall decoration. Whether those wrapped boxes are filled with presents is a secret only this team knows.
A team made up of Han Bui, John Liu, Saya Li, and Bui’s kids Alexander and Kayla Wilson made a super-sized gingerbread house. The team drew cartoon versions of themselves and put them in the windows. Real candies decorate the door and windows. Yum!
